         PENDING PROJECTS

AUSTIN ENERGY HAS PLAN FOR RAINEY SUB-STATION

On July 27, 2017 Austin Energy announced plans for developing the Rainey District electrical sub-station.  Details that were set in 2011 can be found at:  ftp://ftp.ci.austin.tx.us/DowntownAustinPlan/dap_approved_12-8-2011.pdf

Some concerns with the project, expressed by the Towers of Town Lake representative to the RNA, Sandra De Leon, are:

  •  one of the main entrances into our neighborhood as well as the MACCs, will be an electrical substation. We need to get in front of this project before real decisions have been made as to the exterior and aesthetics of the substation. Instead of making this merely a horrific-looking substation with wires protruding in all manner, it could double as a beautiful marker signaling the entrance to our neighborhood and the MACC.

  • The station will be built in the identified parcel with 100% certainty, meaning, we will have to live with this structure and its location; but we now have the ability to give feedback and make sure that Austin Energy and City Council knows that a normal substation is not appropriate at one of our main entrances which leads to the MACC    Center.                     Whenever this meeting is rescheduled, residents of the area  must participate.

No date set yet for "Vacation of Lambie" hearing at City Council.  Request has been made for TLNA to be notified.

Concern for residents:   On the South side of Lambie St. and East Avenue, the developer has requested the City to release the Lambie parking circle so that the developer can purchase it.  If they obtain ownership of this City property, they can increase the “floor-to-area” ratio. This would allow a much taller building, increasing the height by approximately 10 to 12 floors.•
