Rainey Street Substation
On October 15, 2019 TLNA sent a letter to Austin Energy to request no further reduction of East Avenue during the building of the substation.
Recently, Kim Doyle responded that there are no plans to decrease East Avenue’s width for the construction of the substation. Existing sidewalks will remain as they are and the staging area will be contained on the Austin Energy substation site.
A substantial number of Rainey District residents attended the Austin Energy Community meeting on Sept. 24th, 2019 where questions about the Rainey Street Substation construction process were answered. Materials for the wall were shown, as well as, the updated site plans, with design renderings. Below, we've snipped some of the info from the presentation, but you can also click on the full document located at the end of this page for more information.
​Note: The first phase of construction will begin in October. Water and wastewater pipelines, currently located on the east side of East Avenue, will be moved to Lambie Street. At the same time, construction at 44 and 48 East Avenue will be in progress. Austin Energy is aware of the potential impact on traffic movement for residents in this small, restricted area. They will be coordinating with both developers on the west side of East Avenue to minimize traffic issues.
